Life changed for Buddy McAtee in December 2004. Though he was feeling great, the vice president and executive producer of television at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was 50 and decided he should get a complete physical. He went through a standard work-up, though opted to hold off on a colonoscopy until after racing season. He was busy. Two months later he had the test and was shocked to learn his diagnosis: stage 4 colon cancer with metastases in the lung and liver.
